Luxurious bathroom trends that will be popular in 2024

Do you wish your bathroom felt less functional and more like a sanctuary? Modern living has slightly altered the way that we use the rooms in our homes. From social kitchen design to living spaces that double as a workspace. While the bathroom clearly remains a space to wash and refresh, its growing dominance as a zone for relaxation and rejuvenation is striking. And this is reflected in bathroom trends. While clean lines and elegant design have been at the forefront for some years, increasingly bathroom trends focus on creating a luxury, spa-like feel. From colours and lighting to materials and furniture, we look at current luxurious bathroom trends.

Opulent Colours

The first place to look when exploring interior decor colour trends is Pantone. The colour matching experts release an annual ‘colour of the year’ which ties in with current cultural and stylistic trends. In 2024, Pantone have chosen Peach Fuzz, describing it in these words:

“PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It’s a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.”

This choice of warm, rich colour accurately taps into a zeitgeist for self care and self nourishment. It’s the same trend that is seeing bathroom design take a more luxurious focus. So when you come to choose colour for wall paint, accessories, or even tints in your stone countertops, this is something to bear in mind.

Warm Tones

Maybe Peach Fuzz specifically isn’t your thing. There are plenty of warm tones that you can use in your luxury bathroom design that give the same sense of comfort. Look to deep shades for accent colours, and lighter tones if you’re covering a whole wall.  You may even choose to have exposed wood finishes, with the naturally warm tones of cherry and maple a good option.

Marbled Stone

Elegant and stylish, marble surfaces are a stand alone trend in 2024. Marble worktops are dramatic, durable, and established as a luxury design material. In addition, there is a huge range of colour tints and tones within natural marble ranges. From rose to yellow, marble is an ideal way to introduce warmth of colour into a bathroom without overdoing it.

Lavish Wall Dressings

While paint colour is certainly a key way to add a sense of depth and warmth to your luxury bathroom design, wall dressings can add a sense of decadence. So consider the way that you waterproof and dress your bathroom walls, as certain trends here can elevate the luxury in your design concept.

Shower Walls

Technology in shower walling has come on apace in recent years, so composite materials are a good way to waterproof without grouting. For a truly luxurious design, real stone wall panels add an extra level of opulence to your room. From marble to quartz, real stone both looks and feels spa-like and benefit long term from being easy to clean and maintain.

Tiles

Bathroom tiles are the classic way to waterproof areas of your bathroom. Whether you choose stone or ceramic tiles, you can use these design features to add a hint of colour, pattern, or texture. Try vertically stacked rectangle tiling to make your ceiling feel higher. Vertical or angled rectangles are a really current trend to very easily add a design feature to otherwise minimalist spaces. Alternatively, tap into trends for retro ambience with William Morris style square patterned tiling. You can use this on floors or walls to add a Regency elegance and luxury to your bathroom.

Surface Drenching

This is a real design statement, so be sure that it’s for you before you go for it! Surface drenching means to use the same tile or panel finish for both walls and floor. Commonly used with marble, it can make a bathroom feel both spacious and embracing at the same time. The technique gives a strong spa-like ambience, but isn’t for everyone.

Decadent Functionality

The shift of focus for a bathroom to be more of an indulgent space is summed up by the phrase ‘spathroom’. This may feel rather like a buzzword, but the sentiment is absolutely valid. For a bathroom to feel spa-like, though, it has to have the right structure underneath all the luxury materials and design features.

Storage

Having adequate, even excess, storage is possibly the most important functional aspect to allow for a luxurious bathroom. For a room to feel relaxing, it must be uncluttered. So it follows that there must be somewhere to put all of the trappings of a modern bathroom. Especially if that bathroom is shared by the family!

Worktops

The net result of having a good amount of storage in a bathroom design is that your bathroom worktops are clear and clean. This allows you to enjoy the clarity of smooth texture across shining quartz or elegant marble. Or perhaps absorb the gentle reflection of candle flame as you relax in the bathtub.

Vibrant Lighting

While the principles of lighting in good interior design remain constant, lighting of course plays a part in trends too. With improved technology, we can now enjoy different colours and hues through LED lighting at the touch of a button. So while ceiling spotlights create a general wash, and focus lighting around a mirror is important, your lighting can work to create even more ambience.

Natural light

It’s commonly accepted that natural light is great for our mental health. So when you’re planning a bathroom that has a luxury feel, it’s incredibly important to maximise its natural light. Do this by choosing reflective surfaces, like sparkling quartz worktops or marble tiles. Go for larger sized mirrors to reflect the light coming in and expanding the feeling of space. Finally, minimise window dressings. There’s no need for excessive fabric around a bathroom mirror, especially if the window is on the smaller side.

Warmth

Going back to the same trend of creating luxury through warmth, position lighting to enhance this. With different levels, from ceiling to mirror to under-worktop you can give flexibility to the lighting states of your bathroom. This level of control and versatility keeps your bathroom working for you, whether you need clarity or a soft glow.

There’s one material that is super reliable when it comes to designing a luxurious bathroom, and that is stone. From quartz to marble, stone features elevate your space to one of sheer opulence. Browse our range of colours and styles online or visit the Zenstone showroom to get inspired.
