Bathroom trends for 2023

If you’ve decided that 2023 is the right time for a new bathroom, it can be difficult to know where to start. As well as all the plumbing and practicalities, there are also so many different styles and products that you could consider for your bathroom furniture, fixtures and fittings.

The first thing to do is to think carefully about the needs of you and your family, to decide on your bathroom priorities. For example, who will be using the bathroom the most, and do any of those people have any particular needs – particularly in terms of either safety or accessibility? You also need to plan how to make the most of the space that you have. Whether that is large or small, make every inch work for you.

But once you have those factors firmly in mind, the fun can start! Specifically, what kind of style do you like? Do you want to go very contemporary or more traditional? And what about the colours? Whilst you may immediately think of whites and neutrals, there are so many other colours that you could choose for paintwork, tiling, furniture and fittings.

Bearing all that in mind, let’s take a quick look at five of the key bathroom trends for 2023 to see if they can help to firm up your ideas. We will look at:

  • Popular bathroom colours for 2023
  • Feature tiling
  • Metallic fixtures and fittings
  • Freestanding baths
  • Bringing the outside in

Popular bathroom colours for 2023

There is a definite trend so far in 2023 for strong colours in the bathroom. Bright, uplifting colours such as pinks, blues and greens are very popular right now, as are warm neutrals and earthy tones such as clay.

And as well as the bright colours, black is making a big comeback in 2023. If you are not convinced about a totally black bathroom, you could incorporate some black features such as bathroom accessories, taps and showers.

Another way to add a stylish touch of colour to your bathroom, without completely saturating it in that colour, is to feature one or more worktops in the bathroom, for example in a vanity area. Zenstone supplies several fantastic ranges of marble, quartz and granite worktops which work really well in bathrooms and are extremely hard wearing. Feature tiling

Another way to add colour and interest to your bathroom is to use some feature tiling. Many bathrooms are tiled in the same colour throughout the whole bathroom, which can result in a very streamlined and elegant look. But another emerging bathroom trend in 2023 is to include some feature tiling either on one wall or perhaps on the bathroom floor.

Examples of feature tiling you could consider are:

  • Small square wall tiles in different shades of the same colour
  • Chequered mosaic wall tiles
  • Chessboard floor tiles
  • Veined floor tiles

Any of these feature tiling ideas will look their best with high quality bathroom furniture and fittings, such as quartz, marble or granite worktops.

Metallic fixtures and fittings

Another emerging trend for 2023 is brushed metallic fittings. For example, brushed gold, bronze or brass. They look equally good in either a contemporary or traditional style bathroom.

To get maximum benefit from brushed metallic finishes, don’t just choose them for your bathroom taps, but also go for a coordinated look throughout your whole bathroom. So, also use the same finishes for other bathroom fixtures and fittings such as shower door and toilet seat hinges, flush buttons and radiator valves. Your new bathroom will look very together and on-trend.

Freestanding baths

Emerging as one of the most aspirational bathroom products for 2023 is the freestanding bath. Baths are bang on-trend again, and if you have the space for a larger freestanding model, this will add a touch of elegant luxury to your bathroom.

If you have a large bathroom, you may want to consider creating different zones in your bathroom, and feature a freestanding bath in one of these. Other zones could feature a walk-in shower, a vanity area and perhaps even a dedicated spa-inspired space, to enable you to regularly spend time on self-care. Different bathroom zones also enable you to vary the decor in each one, and this is another way in which custom-built quartz, marble or granite worktops could become a valuable asset for your bathroom.

Bringing the outside in

Bringing the outside in is a very popular interior design trend in 2023, and applies just as much to a bathroom as anywhere else in your home. The idea is to feature greenery and other natural elements in your home, to bring a touch of nature and life to your living space.

One of the main ways to bring the outside into your bathroom is to create a plant display, or the illusion of one. If you have space on your bathroom worktops, you could feature a few living plants. Many thrive in a warm moist bathroom environment, and will bring an instant touch of nature to your bathroom. Even if you are short on space, just one plant on your window sill will draw the eye to the light and greenery outside.

If using plants is not going to work for you for any reason, another way to bring the outside in is to use natural colours and materials in your bathroom. For example, you could use a soft green paint either for your bathroom furniture or a wall or brighter green feature tiling as mentioned earlier in this article. Another option is to use natural stone such as quartz, marble or granite and sustainable wood in your bathroom.

We hope that the above ideas have helped you to start thinking about some of the current bathroom trends that you might like to incorporate into your new bathroom.
